YOGA CLASS ETIQUETTE
Below is a rundown of Yoga Class Etiquette. If attending a Yoga class with The Birthing Tree, please read through and adhere to the list to ensure courtesy, respect and enjoyment for everyone within the class.
SIGNING IN Please ensure you record your attendance and fees paid (that week only) in the book supplied at the class entry before class.
LATE ARRIVAL Aim to arrive at class with enough time to sign in, pay, set up your mat and relax for a few moments before the class begins (at least 5 min). Your teacher will be in the studio at least 10-15 minutes before the start of each class. The class starting time should not be your arrival time and it is disruptive to the teacher and your fellow participants to arrive late. If you are late for unavoidable reasons, please wait in the foyer until teacher invites you in. Then please join class and roll mats out quietly and respectfully.
EARLY ARRIVAL If you arrive more than 15 minutes prior to the start of class please wait outside the room in the waiting area. The teacher uses any time before this to prepare the room for your class.
MOBILE PHONES Phones should be turned onto silent or off before the class commences and left in your bag. If there is an emergency situation you are waiting to hear about let the Teacher know before class and an arrangement can be made to take the call.
HYGIENE Out of respect for your fellow students please keep oils/perfumes to a minimum to avoid allergic reactions. This is especially important in Prenatal Yoga as many women experience heightened sensitivity to smells.
INFORMATION Inform your teacher of any injuries or medical issues you may have. There is an onus in Yoga practice for participants to take self-responsibility for their own body and its limits. Do not go into or stay in any pose that causes pain or discomfort.
MATS When walking around the yoga space please avoid walking on someone else's mat. When doing Partner Yoga always check that it is okay with your buddy to stand or sit on their mat. Consider also bringing your own yoga mat- it is more personal and although shared mats are cleaned regularly it is the more hygienic choice.
ILLNESS In consideration of other students and for your own healing, it is recommended that you don't attend a class if you are in any way unwell with an illness that may be shared with others. If you are unsure, please contact Dani before class to discuss.
CHILDREN Unless the class is specifically advertised for children the class is not the place for them!
MAKE ROOM When setting up your mat please consider that many others may need to share the space. This may mean moving mats closer together as the class fills.
MEDITATION If you are the active type the last part of the class involving Relaxation and/or Meditation can be difficult. Please remain considerate of others in the class and refrain from making noise during relaxation.
EARLY DEPARTURE If you need to leave class early for any reason let your Teacher know before class and he/she will advise when is the best time to leave. Please do not leave half way through relaxation as this is disturbing for others in the class.
